Product description:
12 volt Kona marine cabin fan by Caframo
Mad Dog Voyager is outfitted with 4 high quality, compact and
sturdy built 12 volt Kona cabin fans (marine and RV) by Caframo.
These Kona fans have proved reliable and are proudly built and
backed by the Canadian based Caframo. Caframo makes many
reliable heaters for the marine our other applications.
Through a combination of low power usage and efficient fan blade
design, the Kona fan uses between 0.21 - 0.37 amps, at 12 volts,
while moving 266 cfm of air. This blend of functionality and
efficiency allows us to vent the boat regularly while keeping
power consumption quite low. Even on the low speed settings, the
Kona still moves a considerable amount of air while being very
quiet and power efficient. The Kona is so quiet we usually leave
it running all night on the hot summer nights.
The Caframo Kona fan technical details:
- 3 Speed fan (Click to
view photo of the Kona fan knob)
- Very low power usage! (0.21 - 0.37 amps)
- High efficiency fan blade produces 266 CFM
- The fan blade is protected inside a plastic cage
- Sturdy aluminum body and plastic fan and cage eliminates
corrosion and rust issues
-
90 degree angle 12 volt automotive plug with fuse built-in
(and easy to replace)
- Cam lock tilt mechanism holds the Kona fan in various
positions (photo of the
Kona cam lock)
- Rated IP55 for protection against dust and spray
The Kona Caframo cabin is delivered with two mounting options.
The large powerful suction cup is quickly mounted and moved.
Although the Kona fans on Mad Dog Voyager are mounted using the
permanent mounting base, it appears that the suction cup mount
will do a very good job holding the Kona securely in place on a
hatch or window. (see the
Caframo fan photo page
2). Although the Kona fan is splash resistant and IP55
rated, we don't recommend mounting it on the inside of the
hatch... (and out of the rain)!
Standing 100% behind their products, Caframo recently proved
themselves and their commitment to their 2 year warranty to us.
One of our Kona fans had developed a problem and we contacted
Caframo. Without hesitation, after verifying purchase date and
details a replacement fan was dispatched. Even though we were
travelling, a suitable future port was decided upon and Caframo
sent and had the replacement waiting for us when we arrived.
Good job Caframo!

Product review: Caframo's Kona fans are a great product
and highly recommended
Pros: Uses very little power compared to any other cabin
type fans and are very quiet (You can leave these cabin fans
running all night). The design is nice and blends with most
interiors (Not built like the old truck/tractor fans).
Cons: Not cheap, but well worth the money!
Warranty or service record: Very good

Image: Caframo's Kona fan
mounted on Mad Dog Voyager
This is the older style of Caframo's Kona ventilation
fan mounted in the galley of Mad Dog Voyager. Due to a
failure, this fan was replaced, without question, by
Caframo. The new one hangs in the same place and
delivers a steady, quiet stream of air throughout the
cabin. |
