ICOM AT-140 AUTOMATIC MARINE ANTENNA TUNER

While we haven't used our ICOM AT-140 Automatic Marine Antenna Tuner on the Mad Dog Voyager sailboat (To be installed), we can only rate it on appearance, apparent visual quality and instructions and expected performance in the marine environment.

The ICOM AT-140 appears to be a sturdily built unit. It appears robust and we expect that it will perform well when used in conjuction with the ICOM IC-802 for SSB communications, marine email (using either AirMail or WinLink with the Pactor III Modem) in the harsh marine environment. Of course, being installed below deck, it is not exposed to severe weather and elements, but it is still a damp area, subject to motion, vibration and temperature changes.

The manual seems reasonably acceptable, however ICOM has chosen to use a light (Cheap) newsprint paper for printing the manual. Some questions are not clearly answered in the manual, however a quick search on the web provides most of the answers you are looking for.
This of course in only helpful IF you are able to connect to the internet when installing this product!

The ICOM AT-140 matches the transceiver (our ICOM IC-M802 Digital HF Marine SSB Transceiver) to a long wire antenna with little insertion loss. When connected to the IC-M802, the AT-140 automatically bypasses e-mail and shortwave listening, the AT-140 allows use of the entire antenna for best reception on your boat.
