About this image:
“Yup, the snowshoes are a definite must have!”
At 11 years old, and not as tall as I am today, here Dean
tests to see how deep the snow is and if the snowshoes are
really needed. As soon as Dean was out of snowshoes, the
snow was quickly up to his… hips, and it was agreed that the
snowshoes were a good idea. |

About this image:
“Now THIS is a snow cave!”
Leo & Dean built (dug out) this snow cave near Hilda Creek
in the Canadian Rocky Mountains during 1983 - 84. A
so-called “professional” told us it was too big, however it
comfortably slept 5 people and even had a dug out in a wall
for a candle to add a little extra warmth during the night. |

About this image:
“Whew, we made it”
Set with an impressive backdrop of the Canadian Rocky
Mountains in Jasper National Park (or Banff National Park),
here is a photo of Dean while is was still a young boy having climbed
high in the mountains with Leo. This autumn photo shows
early signs of winters snow ready to take hold for the
season. |

About this image:
Is it snack time yet??
One of the most important considerations when camping is
fuel for the body. The span between breakfast and lunch is
best filled with an aptly timed snack. Joining Dean, Leo &
Brent on the trip was Freddie. Freddie, a wild hare, was
caught by Brent and accompanied us on the trip. Freddie was
being relocated from the hustle of suburbia to the luxury
lifestyle of the Rocky Mountains. |

About this image:
Dean in the wild wilderness on cross-country skis far
away from any trail or civilization.
This photo was taken on one of our numerous winter ski and
camping trips. With backpacks loaded up, Dean & Leo spent
the entire day skiing and exploring this untouched
wilderness. |
