About this image:
The other side of the sunset
This is the same sunset in Deception Point, Alaska. When we
turned around from looking at the illuminated hills, we saw
that the sky had turned a breathtaking mosaic of color. The
colors were so intense and brilliant, yet looked soft. If
you painted this and tried to sell it people would say that
"...Sunsets don't look like that". To the right you can see
Momo getting a front row treat to this fantastic sunset.
Even in Petersburg a few days later, the people in the
Harbormasters office were commenting on how beautiful the
sunset was and that they can't remember having seen such a
sunset before. |

About this image:
The pocket Cruiser from National Geographic called Sea
Lion
All aboard! The National Geographic Sea Lion is now
departing!
The National Geographic Sea Lion was moored in Petersburg,
Alaska, taking on passengers, water and provisions. A novel
approach was being used to load goods onto the boat -
everything was placed in huge nets and was hoisted up the
side out of their inflatable dingy. Better make sure the
knots hold well! The next day, the
cruise ship,
National Geographic Sea Lion left the Petersburg harbor,
taking another group of passengers on a National Geographic
adventure snapping photos and taking in the beauty of Alaska

About this image:
The Outlook looks... good.
We snapped a photo of this crabbing vessel, Outlook. We were
surprised and marveled at how well maintained this fishing
vessel was. It looked like it has seen many years of use,
but a nice paint job, a little care and attention and a
proud owner shines through. With several dozens of crab
traps loaded, Outlook was soon on the way to fill the deli
counters with fresh crab and hopefully fill the coffers with
a little cash. (To pay for the next paint job) |

About this image:
An old style Fishing Vessel, the Nordic Lass
This picture is a little out of place, but we wanted to keep
the boat pictures together for those boat fanatics out
there. This old style fishing vessel, Nordic Lass, was
moored in Ketchikan. We didn't notice if it left Ketchikan
before we did, but the Nordic Lass looked like a very robust
little boat ready to take on the Alaskan waters. See you
again Nordic Lass. |

About this image:
Fast ferry catamaran Fairweather / Put it in passing
gear!
We saw several of these Alaskan Ferry
high-speed catamaran style ferry boats during our time
in Alaska. We don't have any more information about it, but
we'll continue to keep our eyes and ears open to collect
some more information. At least it looks as though this
ferry can get you where you want to go in a hurry. |

About this image:
Motor vessel Chrysalis
Up to this point we hadn't decided to get our USA
fishing license yet - it was a little expensive. In the
morning before we left from Snug Cove, Mark came over
from Chrysalis and we chatted for a while. Mark and
Jackie spent several weeks every year on their boat
Chrysalis touring about the area and enjoying
themselves. Mark asked if we liked Halibut and said he'd
be right back. He came back bearing a large bag of
fresh
halibut. The halibut, Mark explained, was a
good
sized chick - actually a little bigger than he hoped
for. We wished each other good travels and hopefully
we'll bump into each other again. Thanks Mark & Jackie
for the halibut - it was delicious. The fishing license,
we decided, had become a necessity - the fresh fish here
was delicious! |
