About this image:
Greetings from the Kiwis
This couple (self-proclaimed Kiwis) were New Zealanders up
from New Zealand kayaking in the Beardslee Island area of
Glacier
Bay National Park, Alaska and camping in the Bartlett
Cove campground. The Beardslee Islands area of Glacier Bay
Park, is closed to all motorized vessels and only canoes and
kayaks are allowed into this are. These folks own a Chico
42' sailboat in New Zealand, but didn't sail their Chico 42
sailboat to Alaska - this was a holiday. As it was raining,
we didn't have much time to chat and unfortunately we didn't
even get their names. Maybe one day we'll sail to New
Zealand, search them out and get their names (what a good
reason to sail to New Zealand!) |

About this image:
Come on kids, keep up with Mama.
This Grizzly bear and cubs were seen trucking along the
shore near Eagle Point, Alaska. In Alaska, Grizzly bears are
also referred to as Brown Bears. In Alaska you have Black
Bears, which are black, and Grizzly Bears which are brown,
Our past hiking and camping experiences in the Rocky
Mountains of Canada had Black Bears which were either black
or cinnamon/brown colored and the Grizzly bears are brown.
With all this confusion in bears and colors, we just decided
to keep a safe distance from all the bears... |

About this image:
What time does this ferry reach the dock?
Even Seagulls need to take a break from flying. These four
juvenile seagulls came drifting by on this floating log.
Originally there were only three of them, but in typical
Seagull style, if there's a seagull somewhere doing
something, another one always has to join in. The water was
calm enough that until they were out of sight they were
happily preening their feathers and probably drying their
feet. |

About this image:
Mmmmmm, what's for dinner??
The crew of Mad Dog Voyager hates to live by the same status
quo. Just because things have always been done a certain way
and even though nobody else we know do certain things, we
always like to try something different. On this partly sunny
afternoon we decided to sit outside in the cockpit and have
a little lunch while we cruised along. The table is ordained
with some foods harvested out of the pristine Alaska waters.
"A" is a bowl of
stir-fried seaweed, "B"
is a jar of sweet pickled seaweed stipe and "C"
is a small stack of Pacific
Halibut
coated and seasoned fish sticks - the halibut was fresh
caught the day before. C'mon Leo, put down the camera and
try some of these tasty treats.

About this image:
Bob the Seagull gets off at his stop
Just as if they were riding the bus, the four seagulls came
bobbing along. We heard the "Ding" of the bell and off
stepped one of the seagulls. Ahhh, a little more elbow room
for the others. |

About this image:
Rock formation on the shore by Eagle Point, Alaska
This photo was taken at high tide and was a unique
collection of trees, a rocky shore and calm waters. The
rock formation was neat in that it looked like a layer
cake with each layer distinct and separated from the one
above and below it. We couldn't see it, but heard a
small waterfall a short way away. This probably feed the
lush and varied greenery growing on shore. |
