The seasons of Scidmore Bay
Under the snow lies a sleeping beauty
As the snow quietly blankets
Glacier Bay
National Park, there lies a life force hidden beneath
the snow preparing for the new season of vibrancy and
lushness. As a Magic Mirror foretells ones future, the
waters of Scidmore Bay foretell the future by presenting the
past. |

On New Year’s Day 2009, the crisp blue skies said "Hi"
and welcomed us to the New Year. After taking the photo of
Scidmore Glacier (really it is there – it’s just hidden
beneath the snow!) we realized that this was exactly the
same photo we took the previous September when we were here
on an equally clear blue sky day. A little "CorelPaint"
(Software) work and we were able to merge the beauty of two
seasons into one. |

The Autumn of Scidmore Glacier
This is the photo taken in September 2008 when we were
anchored at this location, On that particular day we were
greeted by clear blue skies as we enjoyed fresh coffee and
home made scones for breakfast. |

The Winter of Scidmore Glacier
This is the photo as it was taken on New Years Day 2009.
Just as we did back in September, we enjoyed the morning
with fresh coffee and just baked scones with cream cheese
and jam. While the skies were clear and blue, the wind was
stirring things up – bringing in 2009 like a Lion. Following
a couple beautiful blue days, we would endure 5 days of very
cold, non-stop 25 – 40 knot (28 – 46 mph / 46 – 74 km/h)
winds blowing directly off of the glaciers and fed by a
crazy northern arctic wind source. |
