About this image: “Take one step
closer and I’ll….”
Puffing its little chest out, this Blue Grouse stands in
defiance of our approach. Blue Grouse believe so strongly in
their camouflage and ability to blend in with their
surroundings that when you find and approach one most times
they will stand completely still until they are ready to
burst with anxiety. “OK, we’ve got the photo, you can run
away now…” |

About this image:
The Tropical Rainforests of the North
Walking through the woods around Bartlett Cove, one cannot
help but imagine that you are walking in a lush tropical
forest. With tremendous rainfalls each year and a moderate
climate, the rainforest of Alaska flourishes with many kinds
of moss, fungus, mushrooms, ferns and other plant life of
all sorts. This photo captures on of the more unique fungi
growths we have seen. |

About this image:
“I spy with my little beady eye…”
This Blue Heron has just walked past Mad Dog Voyager on its
quest to find an afternoon snack of fish. Standing
incredible still this Blue Heron watches for movement in the
water, slowly moves into place and “Bloop”, skewers
something swimming by with its sharp pointed bill. |

About this image:
Reflecting on our experiences
As we hike through the woods, the ambiance is permeated with
the sense of departure. As we talk about everything we’ve
seen and done, the new experiences and people we’ve
encountered here, we stop in front of a glass smooth pond.
As if in a daydream I am drawn to the reflection of the
trees in the water rather than the water itself. |
