Jacques Cousteau

The famous research vessel from Jacques Cousteau the "Calypso" is a former British Royal Navy minesweeper built in 1942 converted into a sophisticated research vessel for the oceanographic researcher Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

The research vessel Calypso was equipped with a mobile laboratory and many other hi-tech gear for underwater field research. Calypso was severely damaged and sank while in Singapore in 1996, and has been undergoing a complete refurbishment in 2009-2018. The ship is named after the Greek mythological figure Calypso.
